Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation Research Grant Applications
Starting in 2025, the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation (IOF) is accepting donations for research grants through the Gerard Malanga, MD Research Fund. These monies, in turn, will be issued to Active and Fellow members of the IOF who apply and are accepted by the IOF Research Committee. The purpose of funding research is to encourage IOF members to pursue prospective and retrospective studies that advance knowledge and clinical practice in orthobiologics.
We are looking for proposals for both prospective and retrospective data from new investigators to apply for seed and start-up funding for promising orthobiologic projects. Grants of up to $10,000 (prospective) and $2,500 (retrospective) for work to be performed over 12-18 months, are considered. Retrospective data can be sourced from the investigator’s own data source, or the Databiologics registry (provided at no cost to awarded investigators as part of this collaboration). Retrospective research funding could include the support from a biostatistician, if necessary.
Only IOF Active or Fellow members acting as principal investigators are eligible to apply. All applications will be reviewed, graded, and awarded or declined by the IOF Research Committee.

Retrospective Research Studies
Retrospective research grants are designed to support analyses of existing orthobiologic treatment data to generate new insights and evidence. As part of this initiative, DataBiologics will provide access to its comprehensive registry at no cost to awarded investigators, eliminating the need for applicants to have their own pre-existing data sets. Applicants can also indicate whether they require support from a biostatistician to assist with data analysis.
