On July 26th, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) released the Curriculum for Training in Orthobiologics, which is now available. Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation is one of four organizations who have given an Affirmation of Value to this curriculum.
Orthobiologics consists of a specific subset of procedures that use minimally manipulated autologous cell preparations, including platelet rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow and adipose tissues. As this emerging field continues to grow, AAPM&R recognized a pressing need for educational standards.
AAPM&R’s workgroup has developed a comprehensive orthobiologics curriculum that provides a benchmark for the knowledge and skills required to be competent in this emerging field. This curriculum should guide future efforts in developing multi-tiered training programs, and can be used to design didactic and clinical competency that can set the standard in the field of orthobiologics.
